As I’m sure everyone is aware, Issues Etc. on KFUO has been canceled, and it will be missed. That program had no small part in my decision to go to seminary to study for the pastoral ministry. I have friends, too, from the seminary who either came to historic Lutheranism or to the seminary because of their robust and timely programming. And now as an admission counselor, I encounter this phenomenon in other men also. We here at the seminary and the Office of Admission have a great gratitude for all that Issues, Etc. has done for the church, for Lutheranism, and for us by their unwavering and tireless proclamation of the truth for the salvation of the world.
That being said, this is not what saddens me most about the cancellation. What saddens me most is that my mother-in-law no longer has the joy and frustration (I say frustration because it requires dexterous use of a computer) of downloading Issues, Etc. shows to her mp3 player. She lives in northwest Iowa, where no matter where you’re at everything always smells like money (as my father-in-law would say). Anyway, she would download enough to fill her entire player every time the whole family got together because it always took her that many people to get it working. She would listen to them on walks, or while she tended to the gardening, or vacuuming, or sewing. You name it, she was probably listening to Issues, Etc. This saddens me. It saddens me that this pious and faithful Lutheran woman who takes care of her family, loves her church, loves to learn more about her faith and her Lord, and is always ready to dive in to help somewhere doesn’t have this joy anymore. There are, I’m sure, countless people like this throughout the US and world. And that’s what makes me sad about the cancellation of Issues, Etc.
Thank you, Issues, Etc. for giving this much to my mother-in-law and thereby us. You have given more than you know, and we, the people of the church, are thankful. You and your families are in our prayers.

Oh Jason. Your thoughtfulness and your ability to put it into words continues to amaze me. Thank you for such a nice post.
Jason, How I regret emptying that little device just a week ago and not reloading it with my favorite programs! I was planning to go back to get Pam Nielsen’s thoughts on the latest Sunday school lesson and Bender’s thoughts on the Ten commandments, both things I needed for a presentation I was planning to make to my church’s board of education. Sad,sad indeed! Perhaps though, and Lord willing, the way I seem download programs, something may still be floating around on this computer. I can only hope. G
Gail — Don’t check your computer, check your camera instead.
I should have thought of that– I’m sure they’re right there where I left them!
