Don’t talk with your hands full!

St. Paul says that faith comes by hearing. It comes by hearing the Word of Christ. But what happens when you are deaf and can’t hear with your ears? Then you hear with your eyes. The Lord continues to call men from the church to minister to the Deaf. AND he picks people to carry (like a microphone) the work of his pastors into the eyes of his wonderful people. Interpreters serve the Deaf in all walks of life, but the interpreters of the Church carry the message of the living God to his people. There is a different vocabulary that takes place in a sacred space. Concordia Theological Seminary has trained interpreters for the Church for many years. This year, the Church Interpreter Training Institute (CITI) returns to the seminary for an 8 day program (June 1-8, 2008). Check out the CITI Web page. Faith comes by seeing, too. How beautiful the hands (and feet) of those that bring the good news. And that faith clings to the forgiveness of Christ’s cross. The blood of Calvary washes all the sin of the world away. So make sure there isn’t anything in your hands and come learn some signs…and praise the Lord!
