St. Paul’s Lutheran Church was founded in 1837. Until then, many Lutherans had been gathering in the courthouse in Fort Wayne to worship. In 1839, the parishioners were finally able to begin worshiping at the church’s present site on Barr Street. The parish was served by men of the Missouri Synod such as Rev. Friedrich Wyneken and Dr. Wilhlem Sihler. On December 3, 1903, the church suffered from the effects of a fire and was burned down to the structure. It was rebuilt and continues to stand to this day with the proclamation of Christ crucified rising from the pulpit.
St. Paul’s is currently served by Rev. Peter Cage and Rev. John Hamer. Both men are graduates of Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana. St. Paul’s Lutheran School is attached to the church, and children between kindergarten and eighth grade can attend.
Also worth noting is the fact that this was the first Lutheran church in Fort Wayne. When the people needed to hear the Word of God rightly proclaimed, God answered by giving them St. Paul’s and the faithful men who served there as pastors. It continues today to be a place of true Lutheran worship and doctrine.
For more information and for worship times, go to www.stpaulsfw.org. The church is located at 1126 South Barr Street.

I just wanted to let you know how much I am enjoying this “series” on Fort Wayne Churches. It makes me miss the Fort . . . and increases even more my desire to attend seminary there in 3 years.
Bravo.
