Lest you think that Fort Wayne, situated as it is in the heart of the Midwest, has no opportunities for culture or class, be reassured. The Bach Collegium has all the sophistication and elegance of an Italian opera.
Made up of thirty-four singers and nearly twenty instrumentalists, the choir presents concerts centered around the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, a seventeenth- and eighteenth-century German Lutheran composer. The music for the concerts is played on instruments from the time period in which the pieces were written, creating beautiful and noteworthy harmonies along with the singers’ voices.
Each year, the Collegium hosts several performances including a ball, complete with a banquet and dancing, as well as events such as St. Matthew’s Passion and Scriptural pieces. Rev. Dr. Daniel Reuning, who holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree, conducts the collegium. He is also kantor at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne.
So as you consider Concordia Theological Seminary, consider also what Fort Wayne has to offer, and especially the Bach Collegium. Beautiful singing, lively music, and good company - all can be found in one ensemble. Want to know more? Whistle whetted? Season six is on its way!
