Missouri Synod Lutherans have been involved in bringing the gospel to the Deaf since 1874. A special school for the Deaf opened in Detroit that year. It was meant to be an orphanage, but instead Deaf children came seeking religious instruction. “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.”
